Privacy & Cookies
What this blog stores, and what it doesn't.
This is a personal blog run by Goran Arsov. It is built to collect as little as possible: no ads, no analytics, no third-party trackers, and nothing is ever sold or shared. Here is exactly what the site stores and why.
What is stored, and why
- A session cookie (essential). When you open a post, the site notes in your own session cookie when you opened it and a random, anonymous identifier for your browser. This powers the upvote feature: a vote only counts after you have spent about a minute reading, and the identifier keeps one browser to one vote per post. The cookie holds no name or email. (The same cookie also keeps the site's author signed in to the admin area.)
- Your IP address (upvotes and security). When you upvote a post, the site saves the post, your IP address, and that random browser identifier together, so the same person cannot upvote the same post over and over. Your IP is also used briefly to rate-limit repeated sign-in attempts on the admin page (a security measure), and it appears in ordinary server logs.
- Your browser's local storage. Your light/dark theme choice and the list of posts this browser has upvoted are saved locally in your browser (local storage). They never leave your device and are not sent to the server.
What the site does not do
- No analytics (no Google Analytics, Plausible, or similar).
- No advertising and no tracking cookies.
- No social-media trackers — the share buttons are plain links and only contact X/Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn if you click them.
- No visitor accounts or registration — there is nothing to sign up for.
Third parties
-
Fonts. The site's typefaces are served by Google Fonts
(
fonts.googleapis.com), so Google may receive your IP address while delivering them. - Error monitoring. If the author has enabled it, the site may use Sentry to record technical errors in production. It is configured not to send personal data or IP addresses.
Your choices
You can clear your cookies and local storage in your browser at any time — the site keeps working (you would simply re-pick your theme, and could upvote a post again). If you would like to know what is stored about you or ask for it to be deleted, just get in touch.
